After a fantastic year of uploads from superb artists across the region we are delighted to announced the ten finalists for this years Merseyrail Sound Station Prize. It’s been incredibly difficult to pick just 10 contenders from such a strong pool of entries but we are very happy with the artists who are lined up for the Merseyrail Sound Station Festival.
Singers, musicians and performers of all genres have been recording uploads in a bid to win the very special prize of a years expert music industry mentoring, studio time to record their tracks and a years free travel courtesy of Merseyrail. The forth year of the Merseyrail Sound Station prize has perhaps been the most competitive yet and we would like to thank everyone who has uploaded via our Facebook page.
This year, 10 artists will once again perform three songs each at the Merseyrail Sound Station Festival which takes place inside Moorfields Station. A panel of industry expert judges will then choose one winner who will go home with the coveted prize.
Our 10 finalists this year are: Mersey Wylie, Katy Alex, Mono Sideboards, The Shipbuilders, Gyrus, The Basement Effect, Lewis Maxwell, Lucy Mayhew, Rossa Murray and Cal Ruddy. Congratulations to those who made the final and we look to seeing them at this special event at Moorfields on Saturday 21st November.
Last year, rapper Blue Saint got the vote from our judges. He has since spent the last year reaping the benefits and is about to release his second EP. He said this of the project: “There are so many things I am thankful for Sound Station for. It’s allowed me to have more time to try things and I’ve found that is it about what you want to explore.”
This year has seen Sound Station pitch up our pop-up stage at a variety of festivals as well as host Upload Days at Central Station throughout the summer. We’ve seen some great performances and the Moorfields event is sure to be a fitting finale to this years project.
Merseyrail Jan Chaudhry also expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative: “We’re very excited to present yet another programme of emerging musical talent from Merseyside. Over the last few years, we’ve seen Sound Station grow from strength to strength and become an essential platform for burgeoning young musicians in the city region. We’re right behind this initiative and are delighted that it continues to thrive.”
Merseyrail invites any music fan who wants to experience a festival with a difference and support a very exciting batch of artists to the Merseyrail Sound Station Festival at Moorfields Station on Saturday 21st November at 1pm. Full steam ahead!
